Where you live in Delhi matters enormously — more than most people relocating from another city expect. The city is large, traffic is unpredictable, and metro connectivity varies significantly. The right area for you depends primarily on where you work or study, and secondarily on your budget and lifestyle preferences.
Before researching areas, find your college or office on Google Maps. Then look for PGs within 40 minutes by metro or 30 minutes by road. Everything else is secondary. A beautiful PG 75 minutes from work will make your year miserable.
1. How to Think About Delhi's Areas
Delhi can be roughly divided into four residential zones for PG purposes:
- West Delhi — Kirti Nagar, Rajouri Garden, Janakpuri, Punjabi Bagh, Tilak Nagar. Blue Line metro. Well-established residential areas. Good mix of budget and premium PGs.
- South Delhi — Saket, Hauz Khas, Malviya Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, Vasant Kunj. Yellow and Violet Lines. Wealthier area. Higher PG rents. Good for South Delhi offices and AIIMS.
- North Delhi — Kamla Nagar, GTB Nagar, Mukherjee Nagar, Vijay Nagar. Yellow Line. Delhi University North Campus belt. Student-heavy area. Lots of budget PG options.
- East Delhi / Noida — Laxmi Nagar, Mayur Vihar, Noida sectors. Blue Line east. Good for Noida offices and east Delhi companies. Lower rents than South Delhi.
2. West Delhi — Kirti Nagar & Surroundings
West Delhi's Kirti Nagar area is one of the best-positioned zones in the city for girls PGs, particularly because of the Blue Line metro connectivity:
- Connectivity: Blue Line runs directly east (to CP, DU, Noida) and west (to Dwarka, Airport). Three stations within 2 km.
- Safety: Established residential area with consistent police presence. Well-lit main roads. Active street life until late evening.
- Budget: More affordable than South Delhi. Premium all-inclusive PGs available from ₹12,000–₹18,000. Good value relative to what you get.
- Daily life: Kirti Nagar market, multiple grocery options, gyms, salons, pharmacies, cafés — all walkable. BLK Super Speciality Hospital nearby.
- Best for: Students at DU (via metro), professionals in Central Delhi, Noida-bound workers, anyone who wants good connectivity without South Delhi pricing.
3. South Delhi — Saket, Hauz Khas, Lajpat Nagar
- Connectivity: Yellow Line through the heart of South Delhi. Well connected but if you work in West Delhi or Noida, you'll be crossing the city daily.
- Safety: Generally safe, well-maintained. Some areas (Malviya Nagar, Vasant Kunj) are excellent. Others require the same caution as any large city.
- Budget: The most expensive residential zone for PGs. All-inclusive options typically start from ₹16,000–₹25,000. Significantly higher than West or North Delhi.
- Daily life: Excellent cafés, restaurants, markets (Lajpat, Khan Market, Saket malls). Best area for a certain kind of social lifestyle. Also the most expensive one.
- Best for: Professionals working in South Delhi offices, AIIMS students, those with a higher budget who want the South Delhi lifestyle.
4. North Delhi — Kamla Nagar & GTB Nagar
- Connectivity: Yellow Line through North Campus. Good for DU colleges but less useful for Noida or South Delhi offices without a long commute.
- Safety: Student areas, generally active. GTB Nagar and Kamla Nagar are well-established. However, some lanes are poorly lit and the density of people can cut both ways.
- Budget: Most affordable zone overall. PGs range from ₹7,000–₹14,000 for reasonably appointed accommodation. Budget options abound.
- Daily life: Very student-heavy. Excellent affordable food. Large student community = easy socialisation. But less appropriate for working professionals.
- Best for: Students at DU North Campus colleges who want to be as close to college as possible on a tight budget.
5. Central Delhi — Connaught Place & Karol Bagh
- Connectivity: The metro hub of Delhi. Multiple lines converge at Rajiv Chowk. Theoretically excellent, but the area itself is commercial, not residential.
- Reality: Very few genuine residential PGs in the CP area itself. Karol Bagh is more residential and has PG options — good for central Delhi offices.
- Best for: Professionals in Central Delhi government or private sector roles who need to minimise commute.
6. East Delhi & Noida
- Connectivity: Blue Line east to Noida. Good if your office is in the Noida sectors or Indirapuram belt. From West Delhi, the same Blue Line serves both ends.
- Budget: Competitive with North Delhi. Good value in Noida sectors 15–62.
- Best for: IT professionals in Noida tech parks. Less suitable for Central or South Delhi workers.
7. The Area Comparison
| Area | Safety | Metro Access | Rent Range | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| West Delhi (Kirti Nagar) | ✅ High | ✅ Excellent (Blue Line, 3 stations) | ₹12k–₹18k | DU, Central Delhi, Noida workers |

| North Delhi (Kamla Nagar) | Good | Good (Yellow) | ₹7k–₹14k | DU North Campus students |
